Trails & River

Where Fredericton goes to move

Walks, bike paths, paddling on the Wolastoq, rowing, sailing, and ATV access. Curated by Freddy Local.

On foot

Urban parks, riverside walks, and forest trails inside city limits. Most are flat enough for a stroller, a dog, or a casual after-supper loop.

Odell Park

Fredericton's largest urban park. Wide gravel paths, mature forest, picnic shelters, an off-leash dog area, and a deer pen kids love. Year-round.

Killarney Lake Recreation Park

Lake loop trail, swimming beach, and picnic spots in the city's north end. Popular for evening walks and family weekends.

North Fredericton

Wolastoq River walking paths

The Lighthouse-to-Carleton Park stretch on the south side gives you flat riverside walking right through downtown. Good for views, dog walks, and 5K loops.

UNB Woodlot trails

University-managed forest with multi-use trails. Hikers, runners, and (in winter) cross-country skiers and snowshoers share the network.

By bike

Fredericton has the rare urban gift: a paved, separated, flat active-transport corridor running through the entire city.

NB Trail / Trans Canada Trail through Fredericton

Paved multi-use path on the old rail bed. Connects neighborhoods east-west across the city. Cyclists, walkers, runners, and rollers share it.

Runs city-wide along the old CN line

On the water

The Wolastoq (Saint John River) runs right through Fredericton. You can paddle from downtown, learn to row at the Small Craft Aquatic Centre, take a sunset cruise, or moor a sailboat at the yacht club. Season runs roughly May through October for paddling.

The City of Fredericton has a River Access Initiative building additional canoe and kayak launch sites along the river. Watch the city site for new put-in points each season.

By quad

QuadNB manages New Brunswick's province-wide ATV trail network. By their own description: over 10,000 km of trails, 57+ member clubs, 8 regions. Connector trails run through the Fredericton area into the rest of the province.
