Wolastoq Adventures
Wolastoq Adventures is a 100 percent Indigenous-owned outdoor recreation company that rents kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, and e-bikes on the Wolastoq (Saint John River) in Fredericton, and runs the signature experience it is known for: glow kayaking in clear-bottomed kayaks wrapped in colour-changing LED lights, the first illuminated paddling experience of its kind in Atlantic Canada. The glow kayaks launch from the Delta Fredericton waterfront at 225 Woodstock Road, where the company also runs evening boat tours. A second base at the Fredericton River Center handles traditional kayak and canoe rentals, e-bikes, guided tours, and shuttle-and-float packages where you get dropped upriver and paddle back, and a third site at Killarney Lake covers paddleboard rentals. Each glow kayak comes equipped with the LED lighting, a waterproof Bluetooth speaker, lifejackets, paddles, and a safety kit. Visitors describe an easy booking process and staff who go out of their way, including paddling out mid-rental to swap a light battery and adding extra time so guests got the full experience. Boat tour guests call it a good fit for a date night or family evening on the water. The company's site notes coverage in Forbes and AFAR and several recent tourism and entrepreneurship awards. It is a seasonal operation, with bookings opening each spring. Two tips from riders: the clear flat-bottomed kayaks handle differently than a standard kayak, so give yourself a few minutes to adjust, and the LED glow effect only runs at night, so book an evening slot if the light show is the point.
