Hot rods take the square

You will hear it before you see it. FredRod has taken over Officers' Square through Sunday, and the Garrison District is full of chrome and people leaning over fenders talking about carburettors.

If car shows are not your thing, hold on until Monday. Next week is quietly one of the best of the summer: a free film on the grass, two free concerts, and Acadian Day. Here is the whole thing.

This weekend in Freddy (August 7-9)

FredRod Show ’n Shine · through Sunday · Officers’ Square, 575 Queen St
The big one. Four days of hot rods parked in the middle of the Garrison District, running through Sunday. Wander through, it is the most photogenic the square gets all year.

Curl, Neon Ghosthouse and Stoopheads · Sunday, 9:00 PM · The Cap · $15 at the door
The Crashing Out Tour lands on a Sunday night, which is a bold choice and exactly why it will be a good one. Cash at the door.

Straw Braiding Workshop · Sunday · Kings Landing
A half hour west and worth the drive if you like making things with your hands. Check times with Kings Landing before you go.

The week ahead (August 10-13)

Monday · Under the Stars Film Series: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off · Historic Garrison District · free
Bring a blanket. It is a perfect film to watch outdoors with a few hundred neighbours.

Tuesday · Leandra Gold · Officers’ Square Summer Concert Series · free

Wednesday · Rob Lutes · Officers’ Square Summer Concert Series · free
Also Wednesday: Frantically Atlantic at the Lawrence Amphitheatre on Main Street, free, if the north side is closer for you.

Wednesday night, two ways · Trivia at The Wilser’s Room, 7:00 PM, no cover, no sign-up. Or Open Mic at The Cap, 8:00 PM, hosted by Travis Flynn.

Thursday · Acadian Day celebrations begin, running through Saturday.
The tintamarre is one of the loudest, happiest things that happens here all year. Bring a pot and a spoon.

Featured Friday business

Maybee Brew Co

Next Thursday, Maybee is hosting Find Your Funding Fit, a session on navigating business funding in the Capital Region. That is worth knowing about even if you never drink a beer there, because a brewery that lends its room to local business sessions is doing something more useful than pouring pints. Worth a visit either way.

New in the directory

We have been filling in the gaps in dental and medical listings this month, so if you have been putting off finding a dentist since you moved here, that search just got easier.

Own a business here?

Claiming your listing on Freddy Local takes a couple of minutes and means your hours, phone and photos are yours to control rather than whatever the internet last guessed.

Know something happening next week that is not on here? Hit reply and tell me. That is genuinely how half of these get found.

See you out there,
