HEY FREDDY

Canada Day was Wednesday and the long weekend energy is still going. Animaritime opens today, Beer on the Bridge takes over the walking bridge tomorrow night, and tonight is your last chance to catch The Winter's Tale under the trees in Odell Park.

THIS WEEKEND: July 3-5

Bard in the Barracks - The Winter's Tale
Tonight only - Friday July 3 - 7:30 PM - Odell Park

The final performance of The Winter's Tale is tonight. Bard in the Barracks stages Shakespeare outdoors in the park, and this is the play with the most famous stage direction he ever wrote: exit, pursued by a bear. Stage and box office are near the parking lot at Rookwood Drive and Waggoner's Lane. This is the last night.

Animaritime 2026
July 3-5 - 1 PM to 6 PM daily - Fredericton Convention Centre and Crowne Plaza Lord Beaverbrook Hotel

Fredericton's long-running anime and gaming convention turns 19 this year with the theme of Darkness. Cosplay is fully committed, and panels, workshops, and gaming tournaments run all weekend. Single-day and weekend passes are on Eventbrite.

Beer on the Bridge
Saturday July 4 - 6 PM to 9 PM with doors at 5:30 - Bill Thorpe Walking Bridge

Rotary takes over the walking bridge tomorrow evening for an open-air beverage festival suspended over the river. Local and regional craft beer, cider, cocktails, live music, and the best view in Fredericton. Your ticket includes a souvenir sampling glass. Must be 19+.

Boyce Farmers Market
Saturday July 4 - 7 AM to 1 PM - 665 George St

The long weekend does not stop the market. Over 200 vendors with produce, baking, cheese, flowers, and the usual Saturday morning crowd. Go early.

Bard in the Barracks - Love's Labour's Lost
Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5 - 7:30 PM - Christ Church Cathedral grounds

The other half of the Bard season. Shakespeare's comedy about four men who swear off love and immediately regret it, staged outdoors on the cathedral grounds. Box office is near the corner of Church and Queen Streets. Sunday is the final night of the whole season.

THE WEEK AHEAD: July 6-9

Noon Hour Summer Concert Series
Wednesday July 8 - 12:10 PM to 12:55 PM - Christ Church (Parish) Church at 245 Westmorland St

Free lunchtime concerts every Wednesday through July 29. Local and visiting musicians. Worth the midday walk.

Garrison Night Market
Thursday July 9 - 4:30 PM to 9 PM - 11 Carleton St in the Historic Garrison District

Local artisans, food, and live music every Thursday through September. A solid mid-summer Thursday evening.

Lo and the High Road - Lanterns in the Mist Tour
Thursday July 9 - 7 PM to 8:30 PM - The Cardinal Room at 422 Queen St

Celtic-inspired folk rooted in fantasy and folklore. Lo and the High Road plays originals alongside traditional songs from Canada, Ireland, and Scotland. Good Thursday night music.

FEATURED FRIDAY BUSINESS: Sole Collective

Sole Collective is a dance and movement studio in the heart of downtown Fredericton at 384 Queen St. They train adult dancers of all levels in heels and commercial styles, and run two advanced training and performance companies, soleBODY and soleACADEMY. The space works more like a creative community than a fitness class. People show up to build something together. If you have been looking for something different to commit to, this is a good one.

Visit their website or find them in the directory.

NEW IN THE DIRECTORY

Boulangerie Seoul is a French-Korean bakery tucked inside the Silverwood Inn at 3136 Woodstock Rd. Pistachio croissants, basque cheesecake, and egg tarts that are worth the detour.

Half Cut Brewing Company is a craft brewery at 67 Main St on the Northside. If Beer on the Bridge leaves you wanting more local beer, go straight to the source.
