Honeybee Folk School

Honeybee Folk School is the continuing-education arm of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design (NBCCD), offering public, non-credit workshops in traditional skills, fine craft, and sustainable living from the college's studios at 457 Queen Street in downtown Fredericton. NBCCD launched the school in 2022, replacing the edVentures brand it had taken over from Fredericton Tourism, and kept the format practical: evening and weekend workshops plus half-day to multi-day courses offered across summer, fall, and winter terms. The catalogue ranges wide. Recurring offerings include knife-making, basketry, weaving on a loom, natural dyeing, ceramics, wood carving, sewing skills, urban gardening, permaculture, and Wolastoqey language lessons. Classes run in NBCCD's working studios beside the Wolastoq (Saint John River), so you learn on proper equipment with instructors drawn from the college and the wider craft community, and most introductory courses assume no experience at all. Three times a year the school hosts Seasonal Gatherings, festival-style weekends where makers of all levels come together for classes and community, and it also runs winter workshops as part of Fredericton's Frostival. It is aimed squarely at adults who want to make something real with their hands, whether that is a knife, a basket, or a season's garden plan. Popular courses do fill up, so the useful tip is to join the school's monthly newsletter, which announces new courses and offers pre-sale registration before spots open to the general public.
