Capital Winter Club
The Capital Winter Club is Fredericton's curling club, located at 232 Rookwood Avenue near Odell Park. It carries forward the city's long curling tradition, formed through the coming together of the Fredericton Curling Club and the Capital Winter Club, and Fredericton itself has hosted national and world curling events going back decades, including the 2013 World Mixed Doubles and Seniors Championships and the 2017 Canadian Seniors.
The club runs leagues for most levels and schedules: men's, ladies', and social leagues for adults, plus a youth development program that starts kids with Little Rocks and junior curling. If you have never thrown a rock, there are learn-to-curl opportunities, and bonspiels through the season bring in teams from around the region. The curling season runs roughly October through April.
It is more than ice, though. The club rents out its space for events and functions, and it has become a wedding and reception venue in the off-season. Visitors describe a welcoming, low-key clubhouse where staff and members are easy to talk to, with a patio that sees happy hour deals in the warmer months. Reviewers have also mentioned a restaurant operating upstairs in the building.
If you are curious about curling but have no team, do not let that stop you; the club is set up to place new curlers and teach beginners, and joining a social league is the usual entry point. Registration for leagues and bonspiels is handled through the club website.
